			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The common question asked when acquiring a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: do I buy an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, standing for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, short for ‘digital light processing’ are the two most common projector imaging technologies. With so many business brands and models available, it can be overwhelming for consumers to pick between both technologies. It comes down to the fact that LCD projectors offer far superior image quality and colour accuracy. The following article will explain why DLP projectors struggle with reproducing a similar level of image quality.</p>
<p>Imagine a set of blinds in your home for your bedroom window. With the twist of a rod you can turn the shutters open or closed, depending on if you want to let light in or not. And this is exactly how an LCD projector functions. Each pixel operates like a single shutter on a set of blinds to either pass light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is constructed of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as pros like to call them. Each pixel element operates to either reflect light or block it.</p>
<p>How the light source is processed from the point when the projector turns on to when the image reaches your screen is vitally important with regard to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors shine white light from the lamp by separating it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which project the coloured light to 3 stand alone LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels form the elements of the image by turning each pixel on and off. The pixels are then combined in a glass prism to form the projector image. Something important to realise about LCD projectors is that all three colours are delivered onto your projected surface all at once. The way a DLP projector runs is very different and even the produced image looks is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is projected through a spinning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This method of making an image requires a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to form the image elements. The elements of the image are sent in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer&#8217;s eye will then pull together each coloured element of the image into a total image. With LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to deliver top brightness and fantastic colour accuracy. In DLP, just one colour is available at a time, and so resulting in lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some DLP designers have put a white segment in the colour wheel to improve all over brightness, but this also detracts from colour accuracy.</p>
<p>I see in forums all the time that DLP provides a higher contrast ratio and thus must be superior quality. For those who are unaware, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the technology is able to produce. DLP projectors do offer high contrast specifications in comparison to a majority of LCD projectors. Initially, this appears to be a benefit, however, in real life, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room while the projector is in use. Do not be hoodwinked by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.</p>
<p>When the content you are trying to project includes moving images, DLP projection technology can also create image imperfections, or ‘artifacts’. The most common artifact that a DLP projector displays with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is to be expected in DLP systems because moving images change up between the time red, blue and green colours are shone. LCD projectors do not have this problem because all colours are delivered at once. DLP manufacturers have come up with 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to fix the colour break up error, but the expense of these projectors make them hardly practical for most businesses and consumers.</p>
<p>Another difference between LCD and DLP is how they balance for the refractive qualities of light. Remember back to high school science, and recall when they taught you how different colours of light refract differing amounts when directed through the same lens. The downfall with DLP projectors is that they take the one same panel with the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are obviously different and refract light in a different way. Usually with a DLP projector, some extra yellow colour will come up above and some extra blue will appear below something as simple as a single black line. In building LCD projectors can be adapted to reduce these effects on the projected image, because each colour is processed on separate LCD panels.</p>
<p>The one true buy point (excluding price) with buying a DLP projector is its smaller total size and weight. However, this is only relevant in regard to portability and has to be traded off against the image benefits of LCD projectors. If the result of the picture quality is crucial to you, then the solution is a no-brainer. Take an LCD projector! LCD projectors will definitely show bright, colourful images with fewer image errors. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the Dutch rose to dominance in sea power during the 17th century, the initial yacht was a pleasure craft used mostly by royalty and secondly by the burghers for the canals and the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Yacht racing was incidental, coming out of private games. English yachting started with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his return to the English royalty in 1660, the city of Amsterdam sent him a 20-metre (66-foot) pleasure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he then named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, sovereign 1685–88), made additional yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and back, on a Â£100 bet. Yachting rose as popular among the wealthy and royalty, but after that period the habit did not last.</p>
<p>The first yacht association in the British Isles, the Water Club, was started in about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard association, and had much naval panoply and rigour. The closest thing to racing was the “chase,” in which the “fleet” pursued an imagined enemy. The club persisted, for the large part as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, when conglomerating with other clubs, it became the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).</p>
<p>Yacht racing was seen in some ordered method on the Thames around the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland instigated the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV rose to sovereignty in 1820, it was then known as the Fleet to His Majesty&#8217;s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded following a racing argument, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht club had been started at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal patronage made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the continued site of British yachting. The club at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, again at the accession of George IV. Each member was required to possess boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing races for large bets were held, and the club life was splendid. Eventually Royal Yachting Club boats were raised in size to more than 350 tons.</p>
<p>In North America, yachting began with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and persisted when the English had power. Sailing was largely for fun and rose to its epitome in George Crowinshield&#8217;s Cleopatra&#8217;s Barge (1815), which traveled on the Mediterranean Sea and set a minimum of luxury and elegance for the later yachts in the area from the late 19th century. The first persisting American yacht group, the Detroit Boat Club, was instigated in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens founded the New York Yacht Club aboard his schooner Gimcrack.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of sailboats<br /></strong>Early sailing yachts took the design of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century through to the second half of the 19th century. The style of large yachts was initially greatly put upon by the success of America, which was designed by George Steers for a association headed by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America&#8217;s Cup (q.v.) found its namesake after its success at Cowes in 1851. The first yachts were not designed and built in the modern sense, with merely a model being used. Not until the later half of the 19th century did what was called naval architecture come into action. Not until the 1920s did the use of the research of aerodynamics do for the design of sails and rigging what science had already done for hulls.</p>
<p>Because most of all sailboats were individually built, there arose a need for handicapping boats as this was previous to the one-design class boats were designed. Hence, a rating rule was written, which resulted in the International Rule, taken on in 1906 and revised in 1919. In modern times, one of the most rapidly growing areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are built to single requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other aspects (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing for these boats can be held on an even basis with no handicapping necessary. A perfect example is the standard International America&#8217;s Cup Class adopted for yachts in the 1992 America&#8217;s Cup race.</p>
<p>For the time that yachting was an activity mostly for the royal and the rich, cost was no issue, and the size of boats increased, in both length and weight. The ascendancy and popularity of smaller yachts happened in the latter half of the 19th century from the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A voyage around the world (1895–98) captained single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray proved the seaworthiness of smaller boats. Later in the 20th century, for the larger part after World War II, smaller racing and pleasure craft became commonplace, down to the dinghy, a favourite training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, craft of less than 3 m were setting sail single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of power yachts<br /></strong>After the decade 1840–50, during which steam was set to replace sail power in market vessels, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were employed more and more in leisure vessels. Bigger power yachts were developed to a high element, and long-distance cruising was a favourite pastime of the wealthy. The earliest power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; these then gave way to boats powered by the completely submerged screw or propeller sort of propulsion. Like naval and merchant boats, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht archetype for several years. By the later half of the 20th century, several yachts were still auxiliaries, but the large part were solely power yachts containing gasoline or diesel engines.</p>
<p>During the last decade of the 19th century there was a rise in the manufacture of bigger steam yachts. Conspicuous of these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, with triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was operated by a crew of at least 150. The Mayflower, purchased by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and gave active service for World War II.</p>
<p>As bigger and better quality internal-combustion engines were developed, many bigger boats began using them for power. The creation of the diesel engine, employing heavy oil for fuel, was furthered in World War I. From the decade that followed, large power-yacht manufacture flourished, hitting a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that time the best auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.</p>
<p>The manufacture of big power yachts fell away in 1932, and the trend after that was toward smaller, less expensive craft. From World War II, lots of small naval craft were sold to private owners for conversion to yachts. In the late 20th century, yachting has become a widespread loved sport enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen personally owning and maintaining their own small recreational boats. The number of craft and owners is increasing steadily, not only in the traditional areas on the beach but also on inland waterways and lakes.</p>

A proportional tax is the kind that places the same relative burden on every taxpayer—i.e., when tax liability and income increase in relative proportion. A progressive tax is characterizable by a higher than proportional increase in the tax liability in relation to the growth in income, and a regressive tax is recognisable by a less than proportional increase in the related burden. Thus, progressive taxes are thought of as fighting a lack of equality in income distribution, whereas regressive taxes are found to result in increasing these inequalities.</p>
<p>The taxes that are generally considered progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are initially progressive, however, may become less so for the upper-income demographic—especially if a taxpayer is permitted to lessen his tax base by claiming deductions or by excluding some income components from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates that are applied to lower-income categories would also be more progressive if such personal exemptions are claimed.</p>
<p>Income measured over a given period may not definitely come up with the most suitable measure of taxpaying ability. For example, transitory growth in income might be saved, and in temporary declines in income a taxpayer could choose to pay for consumption by decreasing savings. So, if taxation is held in comparison along with “permanent income,” it can be less regressive (or more progressive) than when it is held in comparison with annual income.</p>
<p>Sales taxes and excises (except luxuries) are generally regressive, because the spread of one&#8217;s income consumed or spent on a specific good decreases as the rate of personal income is raised. Poll taxes (aka head taxes), calculated as a standard amount per capita, patently are regressive.</p>
<p>It is hard to classify corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, principally because of a lack of certainty regarding the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of dictating who bears the tax burden depends essentially on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being decided.</p>
<p>In analysing the economic effect of taxation, it is relevant to distinguish between various concepts of tax rates. The statutory rates will be nominated in the law; generally speaking these are marginal rates, but sometimes they are median rates. Marginal income tax rates indicate the fraction of incremental income that is taken by taxation when income grows by one dollar. So, if tax burden rises by 45 cents when income rises by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax legislature often contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that rise as income increases. Heavy analysis of marginal tax rates need to regard provisions other than the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) falls by 20 cents for each one-dollar increase in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points greater than nominated by the statutory rates. Since marginal rates specify how after-tax income increases or decreases in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the relevant ones for considering incentive effects of taxation. It is even more difficult to realise the marginal effective tax rate applicable to income from business and capital, as it may depend on considerations including the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem holds that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is nil under a consumption-based tax.</p>
<p>Average income tax rates determine the portion of total income that is demanded in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is necessary for judging the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate increases with income. Average income tax rates commonly increase with income, both because personal allowances are granted for the taxpayer and dependents and due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; on the other hand, preferential treatment of income received predominantly by high-income households could dwarf these effects, allowing regressivity, as signified by average tax rates that fall as income increases.</p>
